日中は10度強まで気温はあがりましたが、市内観光したクライストチャーチ中心部はお天気は恵まれたものの風が冷たかったそうです。
今日は、少し風邪気味の学生がいましたので寮でジーン先生と待機し、後で病院に連れていきました。今は具合がよくなっています。
さて今日は学生たちはディビッド先生引率のもとカンタベリー大学の学生と市内観光をしました。カンタベリー博物館、昼食をはさんで、クライストチャーチ大聖堂、植物園の順に観光しました。
The 1900's early European settlers in Christchurch had a nursing office that looked much like this one. A mannequin is set wearing the common clothing for a nurse in that period.
カンタベリー博物館です。1900年代初頭、クライストチャーチに入植したヨーロッパ人の町には当初このような看護室がありました。マネキンは当時の看護師の衣装を着ています。
This season's exhibition was on the culture of the far north sponsored by the Canadian Government among other organizations. It was very interesting and I wish I had more time to look it over.
今季の展示はカナダ政府協賛の「極北の文化」に関するものでした。
もっと時間をかけて見たい興味深いものだったそうです。

One of the main sights in to this museum is the actual Egyptian mummy that is kept here.

In a more somber note, outside of the museum was one of the designated places for people to leave flowers and messages for those who were killed during the terroristic shooting earlier this year.
博物館の外にはモスク銃乱射事件で亡くなった方に献花やメッセージを残すことのできる
スペースが設けられています。
The sign in the bottom of the picture has been placed there by the city government explaining that the notes are being stored in a nearby building and the flowers slowly recycled as they grow old. The pole is covered in hard shaped stickers with messages of love and peace.
標識には犠牲者へのメッセージが近くの建物に保管され、献花は再利用されているとの説明がありました。この柱にはハート形のシールに愛と平和のメッセージが書かれたものが貼られています。
After lunch we explored the city for a bit.
昼食の後も、市内を散策しました。

Here is the current state of the Christchurch Cathedral. Much has been lost due to the building being left open for more than 8 years now, however it is good to see that work has begun. The site looks much cleaner than it ever has. While there were no workers on the site this day, it looks like some preparation for the restoration has begun.
地震で崩壊したクライストチャーチ大聖堂の今の姿です。8年以上吹きさらしの状態が続いた結果、多くの残骸も失われました。復興の準備がやっと整いつつあります。
9 students fit in the telephone booth this year. Big jackets were not a help.
今年はこの電話ボックスに9人の学生が入ることができました。みんなの分厚い上着が邪魔をしました。

最後に植物園にやってきました。
Tree climbing is a national pastime here in New Zealand, and this beautiful tree is a great place to try it out. Also, thanks to JSOC member Jake who just returned from a year in Japan for helping guide the group today!
木登りはニュージーランドの国民的娯楽です。カンタベリー大学J.SOC(日本のクラブ）で日本から帰ってきたばかりのジェイクさんがみんなのガイドを手伝ってくれました。
Being winter most of the plants were not flowering but we made sure to visit all the green houses including the fern house here to see New Zealand's national plant, the sliver fern.
冬なので多くの花は咲いていませんでしたがすべての温室を回りました。その一つでニュージーランドの国章にも使われているシルバーフェーンと呼ばれるシダを育てていました。
I think we all walked over 15,000 steps today. Lots of learning and fun was had by all and thankfully no rain.
全行程で１５０００歩は歩いたそうです。雨も降らず、楽しく学びの多い一日となりましたね。
明日は、看護・養護は老人ホーム訪問、助産師セミナー、とNZ日本人看護師セミナー、そして食栄は高校での調理実習とチョコレートメーカー見学と盛りだくさんです！
