昨日の現地の様子をお届けします。
Today we visited downtown Christchurch.
第1陣は市内の中心街を散策したようです。クライストチャー市内には大きな公園（ハグレ・パーク）がありますが、そこを歩いている様子ですね。イギリスのロンドンにはハイドパークという大きな公園がありますが、イギリスの移民たちは故郷を思ってか、このような公園を作りました。外周には沢山の桜が植樹されています。それらは姉妹都市の岡山県・倉敷市から贈呈されたと聞きます。現地の春（９月ごろ）は満開になり、多くの市民が桜の花を楽しむのだそうです。ただし、日本のように桜の下でBBQや酒は飲まないようですよ。サンドイッチのようなものは花の下で食べるとは聞きました。

前日もスーパーマーケットに同行してくれたカンタベリー大学日本語文化サークルの学生４人が案内に参加してくれたようです。学生の後ろにある大木はニュージーランド固有種ではなく、ユーカリ樹です。しかし、いくらユーカリと名前がついた木でも、ここにはコアラはいません。
One of the most popular places in the park. It's rare to not have another group of people enjoying sitting on this branch. The wood is smooth to the touch thanks to all the people sitting here.
公園内でも一番の人気スポット。いつもは多くの市民もいますが、今日はあまり人がいなかったみたい。枝にのっても折れない、ということはまだ太めになってませんね。まだ、２日しかいないか！一寸油断すると、オーバーウエイトするから気を付けましょう。大抵3～4キロぐらいは....になるよ。ま、日本に帰ると殆どの人が元に戻ってるけどね。

いわゆるインスタ映えするスポットですか。先ほどのような大木だったんですね。そんな恰好せんと、年輪を数えたらよかったのに！
The tent tree is a great way to finish off a walk through the botanical gardens.
広大な公園内の植物園。日影が心地よさそうです。
After the gardens we had ice cream... and lunch.
やはり、食べましたか！どうです？そっちのアイスクリームは美味しい？その後でお昼ご飯を食べたん？
Then it was time to visit the Canterbury Museum. 2 or 3 times a year a new temporary exhibition is on show. This summer the exhibition is on pounamu (greenstone or jade). Pounamu is an important stone to the Maori people and has been used as a tool and decoration.
ハグレーパークと市の中心街を結ぶ道路沿いに博物館（入場無料）があります。特別展としてグリーンストーンの展示があったそうです。この石は「パワーストーン」でもあり、先住民族のマオリ族は道具や装飾品としても使っていました。実は、園田学園女子大学の30周年記念館（5号館）2階にアウトリガーの帆船「ぺサウ号」が展示されていますが、その展示場にもグリーンストーンがあります。触ることもできますから、是非触ってみてください。パワーを貰えますよ。

On the way back to the SCC from the bus stop one of the JSOC students rented a Lime Scooter to get home and let our students try it out. Lime Scooters are electronic scooters that you can rent and pay for with a smartphone. You can pick them up or leave them anywhere in the city. As our studnets don't have a way to rent or pay for them we won't be using these scooters during this trip, but it was fun to try it out. Thank you Julie!

昨日、と今日で少しは体もニュージーランドに慣れたようですね。では、明日から始まる英会話、地理の授業ではしっかり学習してください。黙って聞いてたらあかんでぇ！何でも質問し、きちんと意見も述べるんですよ。勿論、英語でね。
