In the morning we visited a South Hornby School, a primary school here in Christchuch.

This is a kite figurine that was made by the students. The school's name in Maori is Te Manu Tukutuku which means kite. Because of that, each of the school's 4 classrooms is named after the four types of winds that blow in the Canterbury Plain. The reasoning is that kites need wind to fly.
※写真は児童の作った「凧」。ホーンビイの名前をマオリ語でいうと、テ・マヌ・トゥクトゥク。これは現地語で「凧」という意味だそうです。学校の4クラスには、クライストチャーチのあるカンタベリー平野に吹く風の名前が付けられているんだそうです。風がないと凧は飛べませんしね。ごもっとも。

The studnets all have their own device (laptop or tablet). The older studnets all make their own blog using... Blogger! The same software that we use to make this blog.
※児童は全員ラップトップかタブレットを持っています。自分でブログも作成しているとか。このブログは「ブロガー」というソフトを使っていますが、この学校の児童も同じものを使っています。奇遇！
The morning break and snack time is called "tea time." That lead to some confusion among the students. I think they though we were going to have British style high tea!
※ニュージーランドでは大体2時間目と3時間目の間くらいに一寸長い休憩時間（約20分から30分位）があり、それを「ティータイム」と呼んでいます。子ども達は家庭から持参したスナックや飲み物が飲めます。日本だったら、絶対許されないと思いますが、日本でもこれくらいしても良いとは感じます。
※先生もこの時間を使って職員連絡会をしたりします。日本のように職員朝礼という時間は取りません。お茶を飲み、スナック菓子を食べながらの打合せをします。この風習はイギリスからのもの。過去には主としてイギリスから移民をしたので、こうした風習もイギリス風です。昨日のブログにもあった、fish'n'chipsもそうです。そういえば、イギリスではその昔、フィッシュアンドチップスは新聞紙にくるんで売ってましたねぇ。フィッシュの衣には新聞の英語がついていたことを思い出します。ちょっと、気持ち悪かったのを今思い出しました。今は、どうなっているんか知りませんが．．．。何で年を取ったら昔のことは直ぐ思いだすんやろ。今のことは、さっき聞いても思い出されへんのに！

After the visit and time for lunch at a local mall we visited COOKIETIME!
※学校訪問を終え、ニュージーランド特産の「クッキータイム」工場に行きました。このクッキーは、東京では販売していますが、関西ではお目にかかれません。ブロガーが知らないだけかも知れませんが．．．。
I think you all will be getting a lot of CookieTime as omiyage! I've never had a group buy this much! I'm seriously scared about the weight of their luggage coming home.
